The Habanero Copycat is a dynamic overdrive/boost pedal with impressive headroom, designed to give you a distinct presence in any mix. Experiment with the settings, but be cautious with the output – this little beast can get loud!
CONTROLS
Gain: The gain control on the Habanero Copycat serves a dual purpose. Besides increasing the output of the op-amp stage and altering the clipping behavior of the pedal, it also impacts the midrange and bass filtering. Two germanium diodes perform the hard clip, followed by feed-forward networks and a summing amplifier in the circuit. This ensures the clean signal is preserved and gives the pedal its unique “transparent” feel.
Treble: The Treble control on the Habanero Copycat is an active high-pass filter, boosting or cutting frequencies above 400Hz. This is paired with the clean blend path of the dual-gang gain pot, which forms a low-pass filter at around 500Hz, effectively emphasizing the midrange qualities of the pedal.
Output: The output control on the Habanero Copycat is a simple shunt-to-ground, allowing you to attenuate the output signal from the pedal. At more extreme settings, the pedal can deliver significant output from its amplification stages and may need taming.
POWER SUPPLY
The Habanero Copycat pedal operates with a standard 9-volt adapter or a single 9-volt battery. The power input is a 5.5 mm x 2.1 mm jack with positive voltage on the outer sleeve. Connecting an external power supply will automatically disconnect the battery. To preserve battery life when the pedal is not in use or not connected to a compatible external power supply, disconnect the input jack.
