Coro Poblano

What it is

The Coro Poblano is a chorus and vibrato pedal. The chorus side gives you a lush, expansive ambiance; the vibrato side adds rhythmic depth, like gentle waves. With rate, depth and lag, a waveform selector and a wet/dry control, there’s plenty of ground to cover before you settle on a setting.

Controls

On the pedalWhat it does
RATESets the speed of the modulation. Clockwise is faster, counter-clockwise is slower.
DEPTHSets the intensity of the modulation. Clockwise is more, counter-clockwise is less.
LAGSets the delay time of the modulation. This is what takes you from subtle to pronounced variations. Clockwise is more lag.
MIXSets the balance of dry and wet signal at the output. Clockwise brings in more wet signal, counter-clockwise more dry.
Waveform selector (the toggle switch)Selects the shape of the modulation. The Coro Poblano gives you a sine wave and a triangle wave.
FootswitchTurns the effect on and off. True bypass: with the effect off, your signal passes straight through the pedal untouched.

Hooking it up

  • Guitar into the input jack, output jack to your amp or to the next pedal.
  • Power: 9V DC, 2.1 mm barrel plug, center negative. It’s the same adapter that runs every other Spicy Pedals pedal.
  • Make sure the supply can deliver at least 100 mA.
  • Do not use a supply with a higher voltage rating. That can damage the pedal.

Getting the most out of it

  • A good place to start: RATE about a third of the way up, DEPTH low, LAG in the middle, MIX around halfway. That’s a modulation you can hear without the pedal taking over the sound.
  • For the lush, wide chorus, keep DEPTH modest and RATE slow, and add MIX. Depth and rate together are what make modulation seasick, so move one at a time.
  • LAG sets the delay time of the modulation, and it’s what takes you from subtle to pronounced variations. Set rate and depth first, then sweep LAG slowly across its range with a chord ringing.
  • Switch the waveform back and forth on the same setting to hear it. The two shapes move the modulation differently even with everything else untouched.

Care

  • When the pedal isn’t in use, disconnect it from the power supply. It prolongs the life of the components inside.
  • Keep it away from dust and moisture, and away from extreme temperatures.
  • Check the jacks and knobs now and then and tighten anything that’s worked loose.

Warranty and support

The Coro Poblano comes with a 5-year warranty to the original buyer, covering manufacturing defects.

If something isn’t right with your pedal, get in touch. Spicy Pedals is a one-man shop, so the person who answers is the person who built your pedal.
