La Ratita: Black Label is a sharper, more deliberate evolution of the original circuit. Still rooted in hard-clipping distortion, this version leans harder into contrast, control, and attitude.
At its core, Black Label is unapologetically aggressive, but never one-dimensional. The three-position clipping switch defines the pedal’s personality. In the downward position, silicon diodes deliver a tight, contained hard-clipping distortion with a focused edge. The center position removes the safety net, exposing raw op-amp clipping that is harsh, immediate, and brutally honest. Flip the switch upward and LEDs enter the circuit, introducing a more dynamic hard-clipping response with added headroom and bite.
The filter control is intentionally subtle and interactive. Its response depends heavily on your guitar, pickups, and amp, rewarding players who experiment rather than dial blindly. Small movements can reshape the pedal’s feel, from compressed and forward to open and reactive.
La Ratita: Black Label is not about presets or polite tones. It responds directly to your hands, your rig, and how hard you push it. Clean up with your volume knob, dig in for controlled chaos, or let it snarl uncontrollably when stacked.
Every unit is hand-wired and hand-soldered with the same obsessive attention to detail that defines all Spicy Pedals builds. No shortcuts, no compromises. This is distortion with intent, built to feel alive under your fingers.
I create my pedals manually.
Firstly, I design most of the PCBs and carefully select the parts required for the pedal. Next, I solder the parts by hand and manually wire them. I also design the faceplate art and get it placed into each enclosure myself.
Finally, I clear coat the pedals and hand them to my wife who packages them, and we do all of this work in our living room located in Dallas, Texas.
That’s why every pedal is different.
Every pedal is special.
This is mainly a one-person operation, although my amazing wife helps with packaging and provides me with all the motivation necessary for Spicy Pedals to exist.
Although I make small batches, I don’t keep much inventory because this is a micro-operation. However, we do accept backorders for most of my pedals, but please note that it may take up to two weeks to fulfill your backorder.
In case you opt to backorder a pedal, I will send you an email to inform you about the estimated time required to create your pedal.
I offer a 5-year warranty to the original buyer. If the pedal is not working or it is not doing what it is supposed to do, send me an email, and we’ll figure out what’s up. Please email me before returning anything. You can reach me at rolf@spicypedals.com.
Thank you very much for visiting my website. All of this has been made out of love for music and stompboxes.
